Train kills man on Milford tracks By STAFF REPORTS Posted: 02/26/2009 12:00:05 PM EST MILFORD ---- A man was struck and killed this morning by a Metro-North train shortly after he rode a bicycle to the area behind a New Haven Avenue address and began crossing the tracks, police said.

A witness told police the man rode a bicycle to the area behind 322 New Haven Ave., and after getting off his bike, began walking toward the tracks where he was hit.

The man was described as a white male wearing a black jacket and jeans, police said, and the bicycle is a white mountain bike.

Passengers were on board the Metro-North train that struck the man, but no one claimed any injury or trauma because of the incident.

No passengers or crew were in the last two cars, so no one was hurt.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the last two cars of the Lake Shore Limited train derailed Tuesday morning in Hammond.

Neither the passenger coach nor the baggage car was occupied.Magliari says those two cars and third car that also was damaged were left behind when the train resumed its trip about two hours later.The train carrying 156 passengers plus crew departed from the East Coast.

Some gave us a hard time, most did not, but if we became over-confident they had a way of putting us in our place.We sailed through Holland and down the narrow tongue beside Germany, through Belgium and into France with no more than a few grazes on the paintwork to show for it.Now we were in the Ardennes, the region where so much blood was shed in last century's wars.

Water-fowl roosted in floating nests, fish rose to the surface, greatly agitating the fishermen evenly spaced along the riverbank, and a water rat, his coat a rich brown in the morning light, dived for his hole in the bank with a stroke of his strong tail.

PARIJS - Air France-KLM heeft de vraag naar vrachtvervoer in januari opnieuw fors zien dalen als gevolg van de economische neergang.

In de cijfers zijn de activiteiten van het onlangs geheel overgenomen Martinair niet meegeteld.

In december daalde het vrachtvervoer bij Air France-KLM al met meer dan 20 procent op jaarbasis.Ook bij de passagiersactiviteiten, die een veel groter deel van de omzet van Air France-KLM uitmaken, deed de crisis zich voelen.

Vooral de duurdere business class was minder in trek.Barre winterweerVooral in Europa stond het passagiersvervoer onder druk met een daling van bijna 8 procent.
